Hi Ken !
19 November 2012 20:48
Hi Doug! Sorry I missed you earlier. I'd left my facebook on at work but wasn't in front of the machine. Hope you're ok.
20 November 2012 04:01
No problem - catch you later !
21 November 2012 22:51
hi Ken !
Yo! smile emoticon
You're up late (as am I!)
trying to go to bed
but this computer is driving me craaaazy
don't let it get the upper hand!
I'm a lost cause
thanx for giving me some feedback on my pictures
I love them
it seems that my ancient version of Photoshop will not install on my computer anymore
this will be a great loss ...
unless I go and buy a copy !
or download some shareware
there isn't much wizardry in these pictures
I wasn't kidding when I said I'd like to buy some
mostly they are drawings or paintings which I have scanned in or used a digital camera
ok
clever stuff
then Photoshop has some interesting filters I like to use
would you really like to buy one or two ???
I can send you prints for almost nothing
in my studio I have a frame for 3mx2m ...
I would but depends on the price. I don't have too much spare cash but it's my birthday on Tuesday and I may be able to rustle up some funds for you.
I tack a canvas onto it ...
and project the digital image onto it ... just as a way to get started with making a new painting
that's interesting. I do miss the art world.
yes I saw it was your b-day 27th Nov
I was going to wait before sending you best wishes
I love this image
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150103715273336&set=pb.566028335.-2207520000.1353538762&type=3&theater
I don't have much push left in me these days
but I say with a little pull from someone else then I am ready to get to work
not much point in making lots of large canvases (3mx2m is quite big ...) only to roll them up and keep them in storage
smile emoticon
maybe you are the man !
the man with a little bit of pull
smile emoticon I'll do my best. I'll be the Doug Tug!
bug tug he he
WELCOME TO BUGWORLD
Do you live alone nowadays? Are you still in Suffolk? We went there once didn't we?
yes I'm stuck in Ipswich
I have a wife and our dog to think about
A wife? Wow! Congrats!
my wife is unwell and we get benefits 'cos I am her carer
Sorry to hear that. Can't be easy. I've never settled down beyond 2 years with a girlfriend. I remain optimistic but it's lonely at times.
you'll find someone Ken
don't worry
you are a lovely man he he
but it's always a mixed bag
Thnaks! I don't gel with Yorkshire folk really. Not in Ilkley. Too many noveau rich Phillistines!
a blessing in way
but always a price to pay
the price being your freedom
True...and inlaws!
Would you like to come down to London ???
There is a private view on Thursday 29 Nov - I have to go
if you can't make that - we could meet up & go see it together later - it will be there for 2 months or more
I'm working unfortunately. And got a lot of outlay...MOT etc this month.
Where's the space?
how much is the return train fare (if you book ahead) ???
it's at the Boundary Road Gallery
hang on I'll get the link ...
No idea. I've not been to London in a long time (years). I've mainly been up here and down in Devon where my family used to be. They now all live up here.
A lot's happened since last we met.
oops not Boundary ... Borough Road Gallery
http://www.lsbu.ac.uk/w2/boroughroadgallery/
Thanks. I read about that show recently in the Daily Telegraph I think. It looks like a must see opportunity.
It'll have to wait till January though.
shall we try to meet up then in Jan ?
Do you like these photos my good friend, Laura, took on the Paris Metro? They shots took ages to set up. http://www.lauramate.com/metro-rips-.html
Would love to. Let's keep in touch and get xmas out the way.
here is Cliff Holden's website http://www.cliffholden.co.uk
cool...I emailed Cliff a while ago to see if he knew where you were but he didn't reply.
just looking at Laura's page ...
ok
Iridescent and dramatic in colour and detail, the images stand confidently on their own
She's a terrific girl. From Twickenham but moved to Ilkley as a teenager and now lives in Paris.
yes I like to look at this kind of thing - torn posters and dirty walls
I wrote the foreword for the photography book she had published about 3 years ago.
but I have to be careful --- or I turn into some kind of bag lady collecting rubbish everywhere I look 'cos I think everything is iridescent !!!
cool
why don't you write about my work ?
Hahaha! wink emoticon
I know you have a way with words !
the picture you have chosen is from a series called "Trial"
This is the book. I wrote the stuff on green background but it's been edited a tad http://issuu.com/elrotringo/docs/half_the_sky
it refers (in my mind anyway) to the Judgement of Solomon
Great to know its genesis. Thanks.
but the original drawings were taken from an El Greco painting in the National Gallery - The Chastisement of Christ (or something like that ... I can't remember exactly)
I was making these paintings when you knew me during 1989-1991 in my studio in Mark Brown's house St. Saviour's Road Brixton ... do you remember ?
Of course. With the music studio.
are you in touch with Mark?
This version has been mucked about with on Photoshop - only one version survives today as a painting on board - I gave it to someone a few years ago
Is it ok if I post more of your art on my facebook wall?
It is the size of a door - on it's side of course
sounds great. Good size.
yes pls help get them out there - I am full to explode
Will do
too much to show
and no one interested
it hasn't got much to do with selling
but an artist needs a public
How would you frame/mount that picture?
otherwise it is meaningless
and hard to keep going
promising oneself that one day .... nlah blah
blah blah
nver lose faith...I for one am truly inspired by them
never
that is GREAT
thank you Ken !!!
send me your postal address & I'll mail you a print
I told my mum I was moved to tears. She also loves lots of them.
:):D:O:P;)
I'll send you some cash in return.
no
no don't worry
let the rich collectors do that he he
31, Fieldway, Ilkley, West Yorkshire, LS29 8NA
got it !
I'll get it mounted or framed in due course
My mum likes that line drawing that looks like it's Indian-influenced.
can you give me the link and I'll get a print of that one too
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150103711628336&set=pb.566028335.-2207520000.1353540949&type=3&theater
Very kind! Mum's been fighting cancer (successfully) and this will really cheer her up.
Is there a story behind that picture? It could be Thai and not Indian.
ok Ken I'm sorry to hear that
she's fine now thaks but at 76 things aren't so easy. That's why her and my stepdad have moved just 6 miles from me (they were down in Devon for years)
I'm glad she is better now
it's good to be close to the family !
sometimes! smile emoticon
well this picture does have an interesting story ...
I made it in 1992 by carving the lines into a block of plaster - this is a negative of the printed impression - that's why the lines are the way they are
wow
but the original design came from some very famous wall paintings in India
then some years later I went to Sri lanka and ordained as a monk
I lived like that for six months before I formally disrobed and rejoined the real world again
Amazing. I was a Buddhist for many years and have just started reading the sutras again.
and in the temple where I lived there was this same image on the wall !
In English not Sanskrit!
Oh fantastic...mum will love that story. She's been to India twice and is obsessed with the place. She's an old soul for sure.
I think it is popular because it represents young beauties (bodhisattva/dakinis/angels) making offerings to the Buddha
in Sri lanks they have some of the oldest preserved texts in Pali and Singalese
My wife is Chinese - she was born in Tibet !
You keep stunning me!
but this could be the beginning of a long story - best leave it for another time
Here is the mantra for Lord Buddha
sure...we have much to catch up on. I need to go to bed but we must talk on the phone soon. I get free calls to landlines.
OM MUNI MUNI
MAHA MUNI
SAKYA MUNI
SO HA
as in Shakyamuni?
The Buddha
the hermit from the Sakya clan
I thought he was a prince
so he is called Sakyamuni Buddha
muni is hermit - homless one
Siddhartha
ok...understood
Prince Siddhartha
yes
but it is all legend
hard to say what is true he he
we have to go to bed but ...
to be continued ...
You'll recall I was a Nichiren School Buddhist, like Dick Turner.
great to have you back in my life
lots of love heart emoticon
to you and your Mum
Ok...bed it is! And wonderful to be in touch with you, wise one.
thank you smile emoticon
thank you Ken
25 December 2012 09:28
Happy Christmas Ken !
25 December 2012 11:53
You, too brother! We'll definitely hook up in 2013! smile emoticon
16 February 2013 19:00
How's things? I'm very bored at work. This morning I caught a repeat of the Radio 4 programme you mentioned. Certainly a spectacular event in Korea.
hi I was just writing to you !
We're synchronised! smile emoticon
Hi Ken
Thanks for sending me the link to Sophie Dixon's webpage
Of course I feel very envious of someone who has been getting on with their career for so many years like she has
Putting that aside I am very impressed and she definitely deserves her success !
Sophie? Yes, her work is on such a grand scale. I'm surprised she's not famous.
I am sure she is among the right cirlces
But I could see some critics attacking her for being too easy to like
There was a sculptor who died recently who was famous for doing hares
Oh yes, I know the one. Mostly bronzes I recall.
They share the sense of movement that Sophie's have
Yes there was a documentary about him
Sophie could definitely fill his shoes
Vitality + drawing
I spoke to her not so long ago but she was very distant.
Yes almost like maquettes for an animation
that's true
Distant to you ?
Yes, to me.
You got me thinking about the 9/11 thing as a work of art. Given that all the evidence is that it was staged
there must've been an artist at work.
Do you think people like Sophie and Ben are saying urghhh you are not good enough for us now - we are better than you !
If that is art I don't want anything to do with it
I have been having another go at rewriting the poem I sent you
I'll send it to you again
I think Ben is also very busy and doesn't make the time for us. He can be judgemental at times.
Of all the Radley boys, he was the most intolerant and angry.
Yes I don't think it is any more than that
I miss Will a lot and Si Dayes.
Yes
I used to see Simon regularly a our parents lived in Torquay.
If I think back to my time at Oxford - apparently some of them are running the country now !!!
smile emoticon
I don't think that was ever going to be the life for you and me
I've always been an outsider. I hated cubs, scouts and all that group stuff.
Perhaps there was a moment when I was a teenager when I could have gone on to become an engineer or an architect
I wish I was leading a more useful life !
I think public service has a lot to say for itself
Well I'm sure you've spread a lot of happiness. You helped me get into the gallery biz when I was on my knees and I'll never forget that.
It is a shame that the system can't find a better way to make use of our talents !
Thanks
I do feel my talents are wasted. Although I'm not sure what they are!
I don't think we are loud and controlling enough. We don't fit in.
Too much Buddhism in our bones
Buddhism
is that the right spelling ???
no it isn't
is it ?
hang on
Yes, I remember when I worked for Amex in Knightsbridge and had started dabbling in zen. A personnel manager came to do my appraisal and asked why my sales figures were so bad. I said I was a Buddhist and didn't agree with the concept of profit!
oh yes it is - sorry - I had a brain attack there he he
I get those...old age!
I fundamentally disagree with most of the axioms of so called economic science
but we will have to discuss that on another day ...
Do you remember that Guild girl at the Albemarle? She epitomised all I hated about the contemporary art scene.
Nepotism at its worst.
Yes I remember - the Design Guild
yes, Tricia Guild was the mum I think
You described her as a Jewish princess! smile emoticon
If I had been able to team up with someone like that - I could have been a great artist
If yo'd played their game.
It helps a lot if you are Jewish or gay
haha!
you could fake it
I don't have very high hopes for the exhibitions at The London South Bank University
I'm out of touch being up north
The educational institutions are the other group who are killing off any new development in painting
By that I mean any development that I would be interested in ... or could be involved with
I am talking about the exhibitions organised by my teacher at the Borough Road Gallery
Anyway I am out of touch too - I tell you Ipswich is totally off any map known to civilisation !
Ken I've got to go now
Catch you later !
Sorry, just had the police at the hostel.
30 March 2013 11:19
How goes it, Doug?
2 April 2013 10:12
Ok : ) sending you another 'poem' by email ...
2 April 2013 20:43
Fab!
17 April 2013 20:53
Hope you're ok, Dougal! smile emoticon
Thanks for the John Lurie link - how are you ?
I'm fine thanks. Was up on Ilkley Moor before 7am enjoying the peace. Tired now though.
John Lurie's such a cool dude. Loved him in the Jim Jarmusch films he did.
Just about to walk the dog !
Try getpocket.com ...
Not quite sure what it does yet ...
but it might be handy : )
Will do!
Catch you later
Ok my friend
23 April 2013 18:46
Yo! What's the word on the Ipswich streets?
Have a look at this ... they came to Ipswich and I joined the choir which accompanied some parts of the performance ... hoping to see them again in Kingston (Wed 12th June) to make drawings of these figures in motion ... with a view to working up a new series of large painted canvasses ... I am feeling quite excited about this ... it will be exciting to get back to painting again after so many angry words he he ... but I have to be careful ... keep taking the meds ... yeah yeah yeah

That's so magical and original. Looking forward to seeing your sketches.
I have a friend, Laura, who's a dancer/gymnast and does a routine on scarily high poles. I've sent the link to her to see what she makes of it.
24 April 2013 21:43
bugs are free
smile emoticon Return of the Bugman!
he he
How's it going?
I wrote a song for Marmite Maggie
MARMITE MAGGIE.pdf
Haha! Splendid. Gotta respect a guy who rhymes "hate her" with "potato"!
BTW...any idea what became of Mark Brown?
Also a love song called "The Phoenix"
(actually its not E A C major chords but something close
E minor A7 C7 something like that ... I'm not sure)
I have just recently started indicating the chords on these song sheets
and I'm still not quite sure what is the best way to do it ...
THE PHOENIX.pdf
Yes I saw Mark not so long ago
He is still as "right on" as ever he he
Where is he? Brixton still?
I could see Billy Bragg singing Marmite Maggie
Mark lives near your old stomping ground
Notting Hill / South Kensington
He can afford to! smile emoticon
Yes, love Billy.
I'm not musically trained, so have no idea about the notes.
He is a good guy ... he gave me money for the ticket to go out to China and rescue my wife in 2008 ... when I was also really very unwell myself (hypomania / psychosis)
Wow! That's so kind. Sounds like a story I need to hear over a beer.
Do you remember Geoff Dyer in Brixton? Mark's pal. He's done so well as a writer. Lovely chap.
I meant the Brown one of course (not Mr. Bragg)
Yes I hear Geoff talking on BBC R4 from time to time ... he was a student of John Berger ... a little bit in the same way as I am a student of Cliff Hoplden ... Cliff knew John Berger very well back in the day ... John Berger used Cliff as a model in his novel "A Painter of Our Time"
But John Berger is a Marxist ... he lives like a peasant in France somewhere and he says he can't even bear to be in the same room as someone from the "moneyed class" ... he he !
He's like me then!
Just joking...I hate everyone equally. I am the annti-Buddha!
Fiona Banner was Geoff's girlfriend at the St. Saviour's Road house ... she went on to be one of the Young British Artists ... the YBAs who came out of Goldsmiths College
She was gorgeous
Ha ha Ken the Anti Buddha !
I need to lose my belly to be a true anti-Buddha
Ken the anima obsessed ...
When I moved up here in 1991 I had a few pub fights (my colour and accent weren't appreciated by the local). I practice reiki and have done years of martial arts...a mate said "Ken kills them then heals them!"
I gotta walk the dog and go to bed
It has been nice to chat
It always is
OM KEN SOHA (mantra of the anti-bodhisattva bugman killer healer)
Haha! Ok my friend. Love & light.
OK sweet dreams
Love & light
20 September 2013 12:43
OM KEN SOHA
back home now ... back on Facebook ...
20 September 2013 13:44
Namaste.
Good to have you back, my brother from another mother! smile emoticon
I had an initial meeting about the community radio project last night. Initially, it will be web-based. It'll be a training facility but no longer limited to those who have been through the criminal justice system.
25 September 2013 19:30
This radio thing sounds cool
Keep the ideas coming ...
Thanks, Doug.
It's a big project.
What was that quote you sent me ... Lao Tse says ... ???
Can't remember...there are so many!
I was looking for it ... maybe you sent it to me by email ???
The past is depressing ... we're anxious about the future ...
I can't see it in my "sent" messages
but in the present we find peace
Very much my adopted philosophy
But it was neater than that
I know the one you mean
buzznet.comsoundcloud.com
trying to find some websites for you
smile emoticon
“If you are depressed you are living in the past.
If you are anxious you are living in the future.
If you are at peace you are living in the present.”
Thanx ... cos I want to use it in my blog : )
Lao Tzu
Is it a spiritual blog?
http://bugsarefree.blogspot.com
Yes I guess so
Did you read the one I wrote. Only did a few pages
Thanks for the link
sorry
my computer crashed !
I am not sure if I did see your blog
I think the thing is to keep up regular posts
I have published bugs are free as a Amazon Kindle Blog ...
so now I am committed - ha ha
smile emoticon I started mine in 2010 but I've changed so much since then. It reads like I a person I hardly know.
here are some music sites (but I guess you know about them already)
buzznet.com
mixcloud.com
soundcloud.com
icrfm.co.uk
last.fm
spotify.com
I would love it if you read my blog from time to time : )
I will do, Doug. I need to be in the mood to focus.
of course what you say is quite true ... we are not the same person
even from moment to moment
I know most of those sites but not all.
Thanks
how ridiculous !
Hard to know who we really are.
anyway I am putting my energy into getting these posts together
I wrote a lot of stuff while I was away in China
I'll keep checking back. There's some interesting stuff there.
You were gone ages!
Lost gone
Wind blown luck
with twittering of sparrows
O happy summer !
Beautiful peaches
look so fresh
in the market
Soon they go rotten
Ducks on a table
sit and wait
so patiently
What is the future ?
Stone caught in sandal
The path is smooth
but it hurts
Pray for protection
I thought the pandas had got you. They're not as cute as they look, it's all an act wink emoticon
I went to see them before
They have a nice place for the pandas in Chengdu
seen those on TV
is that how you spell sandal
let me check ...
oh yes that's ok
smile emoticon
Read a lot too
On my new Amazon Kindle
This is still my favourite youtube clip

Four Paths ...
I can't get to grips with Kindle. I'm a Luddite.
Although it's arguable if the Luddites were actually...er...Luddites.
accumulation
preparation
seeing
meditation
I definitely understand accumulation
Do you know what I mean ?
not sure
The Kindle is good because you have too many distractions on the computer screen ... also you don't have to turn the light out when you go to sleep
You can download samples for free
So if it is some kind of spiritual manual then they usually give you a big chunk from the beginning in the sample
I went to Cumbria (Kadampa Manjushri Centre) some years ago and learnt the basics of Highest Yoga Tantra ... starting with the practice of Guru Yoga
that sounds very interesting
Going to China with the Kindle in my lap ... somehow woke up old memories ... and I have restarted my practice again
So that is mostly what my blog is about I guess
I don't expect anyone will read it
so if you do that will make it all worthwhile
Were you practising Nichiren ???
I practised Nichiren Shoshu for about 8 years.
lapsed when I came up here and tried other things
still chant nam-myoho-renge-kyo on occasion.
Myoho-renge-kyo
yes this is the Lotus Sutra
it's the title, yes
I have a book here by Nichiren Shonin
a bit of a rebel priest
I have read a lot of David R Hawkins's work and respect him a lot. He says that nam-myoho-renge-kyo is the most valuable tool on the planet at this time (and he's not a follower or Buddhist)
I like that he adds "at this time". Nothing is permanent.
you and everybody else
have the seed planted
deep within you
and you have committed
yourself to practise many
many times in the past
and invited your past selves
many times in the future
to join you in your practice
and each time
has left its imprints
so now take courage
and go on
strengthen yourself
with preliminary training
by stressing the importance
of holding pure intention
so take courage
and go on
Thank you, Doug. So many distractions, health problems, money etc. Hard to hold that intention (or "ichinen", as we say).
computer crashed again arrghhh !
thanks for the link
a theory of 3,000 interpenetrating realms within a single life-moment
yes I see the idea of that
but what I meant by pure intention
was the intention to cultivate bodhicitta
because the danger is that otherwise obstructions will arise in the form of some kind of power trip
especially if we are talking about some deep concepts which people find so difficult to understand
cos I can say wow look at me I understand this and you don't
better be a rebel then
but make sure you are doing it with love
OM KEN SOHA
19 November 2013 08:05
Hi Ken ! I tried calling you last night - I am wondering how we are going to meet ??? Are you coming to visit me in Suffolk or am I going to come to Ilkley ? If you came here I could take you on a tour of four local community radio stations - ICR & IO Radio in Ipswich + Castle Radio in Framlingham + Felixstowe Radio - but if I came up to you I could walk on the moors with my dog - then go on to Cumbria in search of a book called "The Great Treasury of Merit" ... let me know your thoughts : ) All the best from Doug
19 November 2013 17:41
Hi Dougal!
I'm pretty much have no time before xmas (scary how close it is) but would be fab to see you in the new year, weather permitting (and money!).
I looked up that book. Looks amazing.
Ok - New Year ! Hurray !!!

Hi Doug.
A friend of mine just got banned by facebook for promoting her business on her personal page. Be careful that it doesn't happen to you. Might be best to set up a separate profile.
Love your work though!

Has the show launched yet? Good luck!
Hi Ken !
Hi!
Just got back from Folk East ... http://www.folkeast.co.uk/
Doing the publicity for next week : )
That looks good. I do love a bit of world music although I detest the patronising term! smile emoticon
Ipswich Maritime Festival tomorrow ...
You've been working hard my friend.
The organisers of Folk East are losing money every year ... they mortgaged their house to keep the festival going !
The idea is to continue the Albion Fairs - Rougham Tree Fair - which we had here in Suffolk in the 1970s
This government has screwed the arts
Fun - Joy - Love - Bliss - Emptiness

I've met a lovely girl...very spiritual but also left-wing and feisty. Nothing's happened yet but she asked ME out yesterday!
Yipppeeee !
Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha !!!
smile emoticon She's called Ellie
Will probably be my demise but it'll be fun while it lasts!
It's a beautiful thing ... to share your life with someone you love !
heart emoticon
My wife is calling me to dinner
One thing I've learnt...being spiritual is no guarantee of peace in a relationship. Possibly the opposite applies.
Let's talk later ...
Ok. I'm at work but maybe tomorrow morning?
Ok tomorrow !
My main man!
Yeahhh !!!!!

Kenwyn missed a call from you.
17 August 2014 17:50
Feel free to post inspirational stuff on my wall (particularly Buddhist or Taoist). I could do with a boost. Just found out two more people from the hostel team are leaving due to our pay cuts. This really is a sinking ship!
hello Kenwyn, this is Douglas's wife Lin Fang, Douglas has gone to meet some of his friends in town and will be back later. I will let him know you have contacted !!! xxx
Many thanks! It's a pleasure to meet you smile emoticon
Nice to meet you too!!! take care smile emoticon

I watched the Milarepa dvd. Not that great great, as it only covers the period of his early pre-Buddhist life and his training in black magic, which isn't portrayed in any depth.
Thankfully, disc 2 is better, as it contains several interviews with eminent rinpoches.
Will get it in the post after the weekend.
I hope your show is rocking! Enjoyed your piece to camera smile emoticon

I just came across this old article that mentions Mark Brown and thought you'd be interested.

I really enjoyed reading this translation of the Heart Sutra.

The Heart Sutra
Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, meditating deeply on Perfection of Wisdom, saw clearly that the five aspects of human existence are empty*, and so released himself from suffering. Answering the monk Sariputra, he said this:

hi Ken !
Yo! smile emoticon

I don't have much push left in me these days
but I say with a little pull from someone else then I am ready to get to work
not much point in making lots of large canvases (3mx2m is quite big ...) only to roll them up and keep them in storage

maybe you are the man !

My mum likes that line drawing that looks like it's Indian-influenced.
can you give me the link and I'll get a print of that one too

I'm fine thanks. Was up on Ilkley Moor before 7am enjoying the peace. Tired now though.
John Lurie's such a cool dude. Loved him in the Jim Jarmusch films he did.

I am feeling quite excited about this ... it will be exciting to get back to painting again after so many angry words he he ... but I have to be careful ... keep taking the meds ... yeah yeah yeah

smile emoticon Return of the Bugman!
he he
How's it going?

Thanks for the link
sorry

Although it's arguable if the Luddites were actually...er...Luddites.

I definitely understand accumulation
Do you know what I mean ?
not sure
The Kindle is good because you have too many distractions on the computer screen ... also you don't have to turn the light out when you go to sleep
You can download samples for free
So if it is some kind of spiritual manual then they usually give you a big chunk from the beginning in the sample
I went to Cumbria (Kadampa Manjushri Centre) some years ago and learnt the basics of Highest Yoga Tantra ... starting with the practice of Guru Yoga
that sounds very interesting
Going to China with the Kindle in my lap ... somehow woke up old memories ... and I have restarted my practice again
So that is mostly what my blog is about I guess
I don't expect anyone will read it
so if you do that will make it all worthwhile
Were you practising Nichiren ???
I practised Nichiren Shoshu for about 8 years.
lapsed when I came up here and tried other things
still chant nam-myoho-renge-kyo on occasion.
Myoho-renge-kyo
yes this is the Lotus Sutra
it's the title, yes
I have a book here by Nichiren Shonin
a bit of a rebel priest
I have read a lot of David R Hawkins's work and respect him a lot. He says that nam-myoho-renge-kyo is the most valuable tool on the planet at this time (and he's not a follower or Buddhist)
I like that he adds "at this time". Nothing is permanent.
you and everybody else
have the seed planted
deep within you
and you have committed
yourself to practise many
many times in the past
and invited your past selves
many times in the future
to join you in your practice
and each time
has left its imprints
so now take courage
and go on
strengthen yourself
with preliminary training
by stressing the importance
of holding pure intention
so take courage
and go on
Thank you, Doug. So many distractions, health problems, money etc. Hard to hold that intention (or "ichinen", as we say).
computer crashed again arrghhh !
thanks for the link
a theory of 3,000 interpenetrating realms within a single life-moment
yes I see the idea of that
but what I meant by pure intention
was the intention to cultivate bodhicitta
because the danger is that otherwise obstructions will arise in the form of some kind of power trip
especially if we are talking about some deep concepts which people find so difficult to understand
cos I can say wow look at me I understand this and you don't
better be a rebel then
but make sure you are doing it with love
OM KEN SOHA
